We’ve been in Turkey a week, and are now in the quaint seaside town of Fethiye. It is over 100 degrees; we are sweating buckets; eating lots of watermelon, cucumber, and grilled fish; and life is good.
Tomorrow we sail on a gulet for a 3-night/4-day cruise around the Mediterranean coast. We stop at several islands, see a turtle nesting area and eventually wind up in Olympos. Since we anticipate lots of good swim and beach time over the next few days, we are enjoying a couple days of down time: catching up on emails, enjoying cold Efes beer, and planning the rest of Round Two. Mark is almost finished with World War Z: Oral History of the Zombie Wars, and I’m halfway through The Water-Method Man.
Crazy as it sounds, we’ve found that we need “days off” from traveling – time to read a book, play online, and have a cold drink at hand.
Courtesy of the unlimited free wi-fi at our hostel, we’ve also added a couple cool new features to our blog:
1. Facebook Share and Like buttons! Like a post? Feel free to share it with your friends on your wall, or give it a “Like” vote. Or don’t. But they are there if you want to 🙂
2. A Photos page! We’re very excited about this page, because it gives us a chance to highlight some of our favorite photos. You can reach the Photos page through the navigation menu at the top of the site. This page was made possible by the Mini Flickr Gallery plugin created by Felipe Skroski, and was fun and easy to implement – thank you Felipe!
And our summer travel plans for the remaining month have taken shape, and look *something* like this:
- Two more weeks in Turkey: Aegean coast, Cappadocia, Istanbul
- About a week in Slovenia: Lake Bled, Ljubijana, Julian Alps
- About a week in Austria: Vienna and Salzburg
- Maybe two nights in Amsterdam
- And our last two nights will be spent in England visiting cousins
That’s all for now, folks. Stay tuned for more on Turkish travels and travails.
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our friends Ethan (today) and Tyler (tomorrow)!!!

Life, even a traveling life of leisure, is tiring enough to warrant a day off now and then 🙂
